Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is a cosmopolitan city by the sea where you can visit the historic old town of Vegueta and take advantage to do a bit of shopping. The city centre is located on the marvellous beach of Las Canteras which boasts a beautiful promenade filled with friendly and welcoming bars and restaurants. It is easy to get to Las Palmas de GC and it takes less than an hour by car or by bus as the local "guagua" actually departs from Rocas Rojas. The best beaches are located in the south of the island and the most spectacular beach you will come across is the one between Playa del Inglés and Meloneras, by the dunes. There are also nice beaches in San Agustín only five minutes' walk from Rocas Rojas. There is also a large and marvellous beach in Amadores, just after Puerto Rico. Gran Canaria is a fantastic destination for people who like to keep fit. There are many options available for sport lovers: golfing, cycling, hiking, diving and surfing are only a few of the possibilities to choose from.

There are seven hole golf courses of which five are situated in the south of the island. Gran Canaria is also the place to be in if you wish to go diving. The waters around the island offer spectacular experiences as the ocean is charming but also offers interesting challenges.

There are various diving centres in the south of the island. Pozo Izquierdo is the place to go windsurfing as it hosts, among others events, the world windsurfing championship every summer. It is only 20 minutes away from San Agustín. If you are a football or basketball fan, there are two significant teams in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria who play in their respective stadiums usually on weekends throughout the season. The Canarian lands are ideal to go hiking. We recommend to do this activity with companies that organise excursions in the mountains during the week. Its canals, restaurants and beautiful marina are the main reason why it is known as the Little Venice of Gran Canaria.
